Report on Yoga Day in VPS (GRADES I – IV)

‘June 21st’, the longest day of the year has been recognized as the ‘Yoga Day’ by the United Nations. This day creates awareness to the whole world about the importance of yoga and its origin.

The celebration in Primary level was conducted in the auditorium where the programme started with 10 minutes of meditation . The importance of meditation was conveyed to them. The performance and display of yogasanas by students was spell binding.

‘Yoga day’ in VPS was celebrated by each and every student by performing or by watching and appreciating the importance of ‘Yoga’ and our special thanks to our yoga teachers who made this day happen with great enthusiasm and joy of learning.

June 21st celebrated as International Yoga Day all over the world. This idea was proposed by our prime minister,Mr.Narendra Modi.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of an ancient India. It embodies unity of body and mind. It’s a holistic approach to health and well being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. By changing our life style and creating consciousness, it can help in well being.

International Yoga Day was celebrated at Vidyaniketan with great enthusiasm. Studentsof IV, V, VI, VII and VIII demonstrated various asanas followed by omkara chanting and prayer and lighting the lamp.

Around 30 students’ performed advance asanas and 160 children performed simple asanas. The celebration concluded with recitation of shlokas and speech by principal. He encouraged students to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration.

Regular practice of yoga will surely help our students achieve a better life, physically, mentally and spiritually as well.


Yoga is a light which once lit will never dim. The more you practice, the brighter the flame. The world celebrates International Yoga Day on 21st June.

India has pioneered in spreading awareness on the importance of yoga to the world. Vidyaniketan Public School also witnessed the yoga day celebrations in the campus.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by the chanting of hymns. Young students spoke on the significance of yoga in everyday life. The  Principal,Mr.Vijai Krishna Rajagopal reiterated about the need of spreading and practicing yoga, before the assembled audience.

Later, the little nightingales of Vidyaniketan Public School melodiously sung ‘SunoBharathKe Tum Wasi’ highlighting the need to inculcate yoga in one’s life. Students in large number participated in the yoga demonstration that happened in the school premises. Vajrasana, Chakrasana, Suryanamaskar were some of the prominent ones.

The school yoga instructors Mr.Muralidhar, Mr.Nagaraj and Mrs.Janaki instructed the participants about the correct postures and yoga asanas facilitating fine performance of the programme. The session concluded with mass meditation and chanting three omkars. The very atmosphere that surrounded the campus consisted elements of tranquillity and serenity.

In a nut shell, the session motivated the audience to ingrain yoga as a part of everyday life.
