Therefore, every year, the 'World Environment Day' is celebrated on 5th June, across all nations to create an awareness among the world masses about this phenomenon and come up with sustainable ways of living to protect our  'Only One Earth’

At VPS, the ‘World Environment Day’ was celebrated at all levels throughout the week.  For grades VIII, IX and X, it was celebrated on 8th, 7th and 6th of June respectively followed by ample activities for students to involve and evolve.  A cloud of performances were also planned by the students in collaboration with the teachers to commemorate the occasion.

A couple of competitions too were conducted for the students of Grade X as part of ‘World Environment Day’ celebration on 30th June 2022.  There were individual activities in which students had to make models, working or otherwise, from environmental waste. Safe to say - the students really outdid themselves.  It was all there, from normal looking pendulums to Newton’s cradle. ‘Face Off’ - Panel Discussions, was another enriching competition that was held as a group activity, where a set of panellists discussed about the given topic/s under the watchful eye of the moderator. The topics ranged from ‘Soil Degradation’ to ‘Urban Ecology’. There was inter-panel questioning too, which doubled the excitement amongst the participants, judges and the teachers.  The Judges evaluated both the activities and decided on the winners.

Grade IX students celebrated the same on 7th June 2022.  The students innovatively exhibited their concern and provided measures to counter the environmental threats. They began with a Verse Drama accentuating the life journey of a sapling, followed by a dialogue between two students about the threats to nature caused by humans.  Then there was a one-act play about ‘The Earth of the future’ followed by a brilliant metaphorical speech from a student. There were two melodious renditions too followed by a role play about a law suit that is filed by Earth and nature against humans.

How could the World Environment Day celebration culminate without a science quiz!!

Here’s a sneak peek into the event.

27th June 2022 witnessed a cliff hanging finish to the ‘World Environment Day Quiz’ – ‘The Science Quizzard’. It was conducted for the high school students in the auditorium of the School. The grade IX students were the audience for this much awaited quizzard.  Six teams participated in the quiz, each team comprising three students, each representing one level.  The names of those teams were the six noble gases – Argon, Helium, Krypton, Neon, Radon and Xenon. Keep reading to find out who won the prize!

The first round was called the ‘General Round,’ containing questions from physics, chemistry and biology sub-divisions. The second round, was called ‘Who Am I?’.  This consisted of riddles and three clues. Usage of clues by the participants would reduce their points.  The third round was the ‘Visual Round’.  This buzzer round had images that concealed the answers.  The final round was a game changer.  It created a nail biting scenario where it could be any team’s triumph.  It was the ‘Rapid Fire’ round.  Ten questions would be asked in a minute’s time. Finally, it was the team Radon that was loaded with laurels, scoring the highest points!!

The meticulous planning and effective execution of the phenomenal Environment Day Celebrations by the Teachers resulted in transforming ‘World Environment Day’ into a gala event with a take away message  – Take care of the Environment, because, we have ‘ONLY ONE EARTH’.
