Competition Carnivals - English Literary Activities - Primary

“Dreams know no boundaries and one can’t use up creativity. The more we use, the more we have.”

‘Competition Carnivals’ was held in the month of January and many literary competitions were organised for all the students of primary school. The competitions were planned in such a way that the students not only enjoyed but also learned a great deal from it.


  • Grade-1:
  • Create a Monster                                                            Date: Thursday, 7thJanuary, 2021

Create a Monster ignited a little spark of creativity to get the sharp imagination going, and let the children create their own monsters, that they imagined. Children drew the images of a monster listening to their teacher’s verbal descriptions. It was a set of same instructions, yet the results were wonderful! Every monster was a unique creation and reflected the speciality of each mind.

  • Toon Talk                                                                         Date: Tuesday, 12thJanuary, 2021

Children and fantasies are inseparable. Yes!  A fantasy land heightens the imagination of these tiny tots and they transform into their favourite super heroes. Toon Talk was a fun-filled activity. Children flaunted their toughness and vigour by metamorphosing into ‘Chota Bheem’ with his powerful ladoos, superhero-like- ‘Spiderman’ with the power of spinning a web, ‘Alice in wonderland’, ‘Snow fairy’ and ‘The Snow Doll’, ‘Little Mermaid’ at the beach, and what not. The activity spelled grandeur and the dialogues spoken by the little ones proved to be the ultimate cherry on the cake.


  • Grade-2 :
  • Tell a Tale                                                                        Date:Thursday, 7thJanuary , 2021

The young vibrant storytellers came forth with wonderful tales with beautiful props. Some stories provided food for thought and some reinforced moral values.The stories were judged on the basis of expression, confidence, intonation and presentation skills of the children.

  • Milestone                                                                        Date:Tuesday, 12thJanuary , 2021

Milestone, a collage making competition was about the journey of a student’s life from pre-nursery to second standard. The children were asked to make collage using the photos captured from their pre-nursery to grade 2 and to write a few lines on the same. And also to decorate the borders beautifully and upload it on Edchemy . It was judged on the basis of presentation, neatness, relevance to the topic and creativity.


  • Grade-3 :
  • Voice Out…                                                                   Date:Tuesday, 19thJanuary , 2021

The  first activity planned for grade 3 students was ‘Voice Out’ where children recited one of the two poems uploaded on Edchemy. The poems  to be recited were ‘A parent’s love’ and ‘Teacher’. The criteria for the competition was based on the presentation/ expression, pronunciation and intonation. Students were given an opportunity to select any one of the two poems of their choice.The participants were given 3 minutes to recite the poem, and were judged on the basis of the given criteria.

  • Paint Your Ideas                                                             Date:Tuesday, 21stJanuary , 2021

The second activity for students of grade 3  was‘ Paint Your Ideas’ [ poster making] – the children were given two topics. The topics were ‘Back to school’, and ‘Children’s Day Celebration’. The students had to select one among the two topics to paint their ideas. 21st January was the last date to upload their posters on Edchemy.


  • Grade-4 :

The two activities for students of grade 4 “Promote the Product” and “Twist the Tale”   were unfolded on the 10th January 2021 . The students were excited to participate in the event according to their choice. The event “Promote the Product” was conducted on the virtual platform “Impartus”  on 21st January .Students had to create an advertisement with jingles and promote products like handmade masks ,self made scrap book,  and homemade chocolates.

In “Twist the Tale” the students had to create an interesting climax for the given well known stories like ‘ Two Geese And A Tortoise’, ‘The Goose Which Laid The Golden Eggs’, ‘ The Woodcutter And The Goddess’ etc. and end it differently.  The students who participated in the event were enthusiastic, and grabbed the given opportunity to explore in the direction of new thoughts, leaving their inhibitions behind.

 

The Literary activities were a classic example of an epic in all ways. The activities were very good and the children learnt so much while having fun. The children displayed utmost profound interest and participated in the activities. And these activities definitely unleashed the creative side of every participant and gave wings to their splendid imagination.
